Walk update

The Big Walk went well and sponsorship money is coming in. It remains too soon to announce a final total for the amount raised. £1,350 has been banked to date and this will be updated in due course. Four groups of walkers converged on the stadium from Cholsey, Woodstock, Eynsham and Thame. Concourse collections were held at half time. Adrian Lenagan, Les Phillips and Alan Judge walked with the fans and on arrival all the walkers were thanked and greeted by OUFC. The picture shows the walkers from Eynsham on arrival at the stadium with Alan Judge.

Background to the Walk:

Oxford United legend Les Phillips is taking part in the Yellow Army’s Big Walk in aid of charity – and you can join him. The Milk Cup winner will link up with fans for the eagerly anticipated walk before United’s home match against Morecambe on Saturday November 23rd. And you can sign up this week to walk alongside the popular former midfielder – and other star names who are due to be announced shortly.

Les said: “I’ve got so many great memories of my playing days at Oxford and absolutely love the club – so it’s good to be involved and to give something back. I enjoyed the last walk, so I’m looking forward to it and hope as many fans as possible get involved to help raise money for a good cause.”

The Big Walk will split all proceeds 50/50 between the children’s hospice, Helen and Douglas House, and the Yellow Army’s goal to boost Chris Wilder’s transfer kitty.

Yellow Army trekkers will set off from four different routes, from each corner of the county, with participants all converging on the stadium at the same time. Rather as fans converge from all over Oxfordshire to the stadium to see United on a match day. Distances will be about 12 miles – from starting points in Woodstock in the north, Cholsey in the south, Eynsham to the east, and Thame to the west – and will pass through some of Oxfordshire’s great countryside.

Trevor Lambert, Charlie Methven, Mark Sennett and Joe Nicholls, of the Yellow Army, will be putting their walking boots on to lead a route each.

“The walks in the past have always been a great success,” said United fan Trevor Lambert.

“What always sticks in the memory from previous ones is the great feeling of unity that binds everyone together during the walk. Anyone who enters will get to meet fellow United fans they may not know and the chance to take part in a fun, healthy event that raises money for good causes.

“The Yellow Army decided to have four routes to symbolise the fact Oxford fans come from various locations to cheer on United.”

You can take part in what promises to be a memorable experience with fellow yellows and legends and help make a difference for two fantastic causes.

12th Man Bar – Revenue Agreement announced

It has been confirmed today by Oxford United that a new revenue share deal has been agreed with Firoka Ltd for beverage sales in hospitality areas within the Kassam Stadium on matchdays.

This is a very pleasing development as in particular it means that bar sales in the 12th Man Supporters Bar now generate money for the football club. We look forward to greeting many fans in the Bar in future games.

Club Chairman Ian Lenagan paid tribute to Finance Director Paul Wright and Commerical Director Tony Davison and remarked on an improved working relationship with the stadium management company, which has enabled the deal to be agreed.

Read the full story on the OUFC website.  Tonight’s game will see Peter Foley as the club’s guest in the 12th Man Bar from 6.45pm.
