12th Man today issued the following statement:
12TH MAN ENDORSES OUFC CHAIRMAN’S YOUTH POLICY
The 12th Man group wholeheartedly endorses OUFC Chairman Ian Lenagan’s vision for the future of Oxford United Football Club and announces sponsorship of Josh Ashby’s away shirt. This follows a donation to the club from a sponsor who wishes to remain anonymous.
Substantial commitment to the behind the scenes infrastructure of sports science was never going to offer an instant result. After a relatively short period of time, however, supporters can see these investments beginning to bear fruit, as the club prepares for an exciting last third of the season.
Similarly, investment in youth under Ian Lenagan may not have an immediate impact on the first team, but is vital to the long term future of the club. Older fans will remember that one of the joys was the conveyor belt of local youngsters making progress through the age groups, youth system, and reserves to the first team.
Recently youth / development players Josh Ruffels, Tyrone Marsh, and Callum O’Dowda have made the transition to the 1st team squad and are beginning to become regular contributors as we push for automatic promotion.
The latest investment in our youth policy is seventeen year old midfielder Josh Ashby who recently signed a five year contract and has already appeared on the bench for the club in the FA Cup tie against Gateshead.
Trevor Lambert of the 12th Man said:
“We are proud today to announce the sponsorship of Josh’s away shirt and look forward to seeing him progress through the ranks. Such investment in the youth system is vital if we are to continue progressing as we have under Ian Lenagan’s chairmanship.”
As part of the sponsorship package the 12th Man will receive Josh’s shirt at the end of the season and an invitation to the end of season presentations. The 12th Man will be selling raffle tickets for this fantastic prize in the 12th Man Bar for the next few games.
